A Roadlink Car Sale owner has appeared in court for allegedly duping his client of US$11 500 after making him pay for a non-existent vehicle.Joseph Gavaza (42) of Mukumba Village under Chief Nenguwo in Marondera appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo last Friday.
Mr Makomo remanded Gavaza to November 7 on US$100 bail. Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira alleges that on an unknown day in July 2011, Thomas Chiyangwa who resides in Epworth, approached Gavaza with the intention of buying a car.
Gavaza showed Chiyangwa a Mazda B1800 priced at US$7 800. The court heard that Chiyangwa paid US$5 300 which was receipted and another US$800 18 days later. On August 23 Chiyangwa reportedly cleared the balance of US$2 000 and went to collect the vehicle. He was told that the car he had paid for was not in a good condition and Gavaza offered him another car valued at US$11 500.
Chiyangwa was asked to top up a balance of US$3 700 which he paid a week later. When he went again to collect the car, Chiyangwa found out that Gavaza had already sold it. Gavaza fled to South Africa and was arrested upon his return.
