A MAN suspected of being part of a car theft syndicate that steals cars and crosses them into Zimbabwe was arrested at Westgate Magistrate Court in Gauteng South Africa on Tuesday.
He was in court for a separate car theft case and the police waylaid him as he left the court.
According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke the man is suspected to have led a syndicate that stole a fleet of new Ford Ranger bakkies at a car dealership in Phalaborwa in December 2017.
a�?Tsununu Ahmad Maphosa (31), and Mpho Dzwuguda (26), who are believed to be part of theA� alleged syndicate were arrested in January and charged for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles and Dzwuguda was granted R3 000 bail while Maphosa was remanded in custody until 2 May 2018,a�? Maluleke said.
He said five of the six stolen bakkies were recovered in Limpopo near Beitbridge and before crossing the border.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Masisi Magistratea��s Court to face charges of burglary at a business premise, as well as several counts of theft of motor vehicle.
Maluleke further saidA� investigations are continuing, and additional arrests have not been ruled out. a�� Daily Sun
