A DARING thief was recently arrested with a stolen vehicle at a police roadblock in Checheche.

Tichaona Garwi (27) ran out of luck after the owner of the vehicle, Mr Shingirai Simango, caught up with him at a roadblock while he was explaining to the police why he was travelling at night.

Garwi had been arrested for violating Covid-19 regulations.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the incident.

“Mr Simango gave his vehicle to a mechanic, Mr Norman Mhlanga, to fix it. Mr Mhlanga drove the vehicle for road test and parked it at Machonya Bus Stop along Ngundu-Tanganda Road. He left the engine running and entered into a nearby shop.

“Garwi jumped into the car and drove off towards Checheche Growth Point. Mr Mhlanga contacted Mr Simango and they teamed up to pursue Garwi. Upon reaching a police roadblock near Checheche Business Centre, Garwi was arrested for violating Covid-19 curfew regulations.

“The pursuing party caught up with Garwi and informed the police that Garwi had stolen the vehicle he was driving and he was immediately arrested,” said Inspector Chananda.
