A 37-YEAR-OLD caregiver was allegedly raped on Sunday, while her 90-year-old employer was tied up, during a robbery in Ballantyne Park.
The intruder demanded money from the landlady and raped her caregiver.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case saying the victim has since been referred to a local clinic for medical examination.
“Police are investigating a case where a caregiver was raped and her employer lost cash to the perpetrator,” said Insp Chakanza.
“On October 2, 2022, at around 4.30am, a co-tenant was asleep in her bedroom alone while her caregiver occupied another room.
“An unknown male adult gained entry into the house after using an unknown object to force open the kitchen door. He proceeded to the victim’s room where he tied her hands with a rope and force marched her to another room.
“Once in the room, he demanded cash from the employer.
“She told him to take some money from a drawer and the accused took US$120.
“The accused then tied the employer’s hands with a rope and went on to rape the caregiver once.
“After the act, the accused disappeared and police are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrator,” he said.
