CARGO CARRIERS were the biggest winners in the quarter-finals of the Doves Soccer Tournament after they beat Ghetto Pirates 3-0 in a festive weekend of lower division football at Danny Bismark. They were joined in the semi-finals by Botafago, Seed-Co and Budiriro Gunners. Botafago edged Kuwadzana 3-2 in an explosive tie while Seed-Co ended the University of Zimbabwe’s interest in the tournament with a 1-0 win.

Doves managing director Talent Mazivisa said they were happy with how the tournament has progressed so far after they became the first company to pump money into the Division Two and Three leagues.
Maziwisa says his company will be happy if the tournament helps a number of young players come to the fore.
“The games went on well and we are happy that we are managing to sustain the tournament as a corporate.
“We are happy that we are promoting teams in the lower divisions which rarely get sponsorship.
“There is a great chance to promote some juniors from the league and with this sponsorship I hope this will help the league in a great way,” Maziwisa said.
Kuwadzana Academy director Nicolas Chiname, whose team’s journey ended in the quarter-finals, said his team did well to reach the last eight.
“As a Division Three outfit we are very happy that we reached the quarter-finals where we were playing some Division Two sides.
“We are hoping to improve in our next campaign but the good thing is we learn’t a lot,” Chiname said.
