Carnival atmosphere at Coca-Cola Samba promotion

THERE was a carnival atmosphere at Mojos Pub and Grill in Bulawayo during the launch of the Coca-Cola Soccer Samba promotion on Wednesday night.
The mood was such that one felt as though one was preparing to visit Brazil, where the Fifa World Cup will be held from June 12 to July 13. Outside the venue, dancers clad in carnival gear waved the national flags of the countries to participate at the soccer extravaganza in Brazil, with music from Coca-Cola road show trucks playing in the background.

Bulawayo socialite and comedian cum-musician, Babongile Sikhonjwa served guests with cocktails as they made their way into the venue which was decorated in the red and white colours that the Coca-Cola brand is known for.

Bulawayo Outfit Jazz Band provided quality entertainment. The youthful band played a mixed bag of tracks, from Zimbabwean artistes such as Oliver Mtukudzi, South African based artistes, Berita Khumalo and Zahara.

Speaking at the launch, Delta Beverages sales and marketing executive Rold Baloyi said the competition – which was being held as a build-up to the Fifa World Cup, would see people winning various prizes.

“The Coca Cola brand brings people of all walks of life together, so does football. This competition will be a celebration of the carnival atmosphere of the Football World Cup that will be held in Brazil,” Baloyi said.

To enter the promotion which runs until May 31, people have to buy any Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta or Schweppes drink and collect their green tops. They can drop them in the entry boxes at participating outlets across the country.

Baloyi said 250 000 lucky winners would win cups and other prizes such as home theatres and fridges.  Fifa and Coca-Cola in 2005 extended their partnership for a further 16 years from 2007 until 2022.
