A 57-year-old Chiredzi sugarcane farmer who shot a man with a catapult for urinating in his field has been fined $150.
James Katsande of Hippo Valley Estates in Chiredzi shot Clarkson Mudzivo twice with a catapult after he found him urinating in his sugarcane field.

Prosecutor Prosper Chipangura told the court that on May 26 this year, Katsande found Mudzivo urinating in his field and shot him. The first shot hit Mudzivo on his elbow and the next hit him on the neck.

Katsande who pleaded guilty however said he was angered by Mudzivo who went on to insult him after he caught him urinating in his field.

“When I asked him why he was urinating in my sugarcane field he told me that he was applying urea for free in my field and I was supposed to be grateful. He even insulted me about my disability and that’s when I chased him away using my catapult,” said Katsande.

Sentencing Katsande, Honest Musiyiwa said he had taken into consideration that he was a first offender who had not wasted the court’s time by pleading guilty. He then fined him $150 or in default 90 days in prison.
