Zimbabwe High-Grade Music Academy founder Kurai “Uncle Bravo” Mukaro says he is trying to curb drug and substance abuse amongst young children.
Mukaro has been running a music and permaculture program for some years now that targets young children mainly from pre-school and primary levels in Mbare and surrounding areas.
“I work with close to 100 children that I teach music literacy, practice, and performance.
“Apart from music I also teach them permaculture, mainly how to prepare land grow and maintain herbal and vegetable plants.
“The program has been going on for some years now and it keeps the children busy and focused.
” So many young children even in primary school are now getting into drugs which is very disturbing for many parents and society at large.
“It is my wish that I have more children come join such programmes so that they are not caught up in drugs.
” These are also skills they can use in life to improve and better their lives,” he said.
He revealed he is also starting a Zim High Grade Music junior football team to add more activity for the children.
“The football team is to add more activity for the children to do.
” They have to be physically fit, through sport and also teach them wellness through permaculture.
“We also encourage them not to give up and to keep focus on what ever they intend to do in life,” he added.
The Zimbabwe Higher Grade Music Academy annually holds a children’s event to showcase their talent and also award them for the work they would have done during the course of the year.
