THE European Union has said it will suspend illegal sanctions it imposed on Zimbabwe after the constitutional referendum expected next month.
The European bloc traditionally reviews its position on sanctions in February every year.
In response to questions yesterday, EU head of delegation to Zimbabwe Ambassador Aldo Dell’ Ariccia said the European bloc was keen to see the full implementation of the Global Political Agreement signed by Zanu-PF and the two MDC formations.

RBZ formulates policy to strengthen banks

INDIGENOUS churches should be respected and given sufficient support to ensure total indigenisation and empowerment in the country, Youth, Indigenisation and Empowerment Minister Saviour Kasukuwere said yesterday.
Addressing hundreds of congregants during the Guta RaMwari Zvimiso 53rd anniversary of the advent of the second Host of God in Mpopoma, Bulawayo, Minister Kasukuwere said it was important for churches, especially those started by local people, to be given adequate support to make sure that there was total economic empowerment in the country.

TWO women caused a stir at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) when they sought a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test following a dispute over a four-year-old child which they both claimed to be theirs.
A DNA test is done to ascertain a person’s genetic material and identity.
An official from the hospital who preferred anonymity said the two women, Ms Priscilla Phiri and Ms Siphilisiwe Sibanda, arrived at the hospital on Thursday at about 5pm accompanied by their relatives.
Small-scale miners council set for launch

THE recently established Zimbabwe Artisanal and Small-Scale for Sustainable Mining Council (ZASMC) will be launched in Harare soon, the council’s president, Mr Wellington Takavarasha has said.
He said they were working on modalities for the launch.
“We are working to have the council launched, and if all goes accordingly, the launch date will be next week (this week),” he said.
