Mature social security pension schemes provide meaningful pensions
The recent debate in the Press over the intended increase in NSSA pension fund contributions has revealed some interesting perceptions and misconceptions about the role of a national social security fund.
One major newspaper, in an editorial comment, suggested the original purpose of Zimbabwe’s social security pension scheme was to provide “a rock-bottom pension that would keep the previously uninsured person from dying of starvation and would provide useful pocket money at a low price for those on occupational pensions”.
Wetland Tourism; World Wetlands Day 2012
World Wetlands Day (WWD) is annually observed on the 2nd of February by countries signatory to Ramsar Convention. The day follows signing of this convention on wetlands on the 2nd of February 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar. Subsequently this convention was known as the “Ramsar Convention”. The nation together with the rest of the world will commemorate the day under the theme “Wetlands and Tourism, My Responsibility, My Leisure”.

Govt to consider debt-swapping on parastatals debts

THE Government will consider debt swapping as one of the strategies to clear the almost $1 billion parastatals owe each other, State Enterprises and Parastatals Minister Gorden Moyo has said.
In an interview, Minister Moyo said the inter-parastatals debts amounted to about $900 million.
