Council gets US$9,5m grant

THE African Development Bank (AfDB) has given Harare City Council a US$9,5 million grant for water and sewer upgrading. 
Addressing a special council meeting last Thursday, Mayor Mr Muchadeyi Masunda said the bank had advanced the funds for the upgrading of the Firle and Crowborough Sewer Treatment Plants.
The bank pledged to help with capital projects in 2008 during the devastating cholera period.
The grant will be used to rehabilitate chemical dosing equipment, revamp the water distribution and to install new flow meters.
Part of the grant will go towards the purchase of vehicles and upgrading of sewer equipment at Firle.
