Council gets US$9,5m grant

Harare Water director Engineer Christopher Zvobgo said his department was ready for the funding.
“We are ready to use the funds. We have already tendered for the supply of all the required equipment. We have a detailed programme,” he said.

Considerable work has already been done at the city’s water and sewer plants using internal resources, loans and donor funds.
At the weekend, the city’s water treatment plant, Morton Jaffray was closed to allow engineers to attend to eight major leaks on the main pipeline from the water treatment plant.

Up to 30 percent of treated water was being lost everyday resulting in several suburbs going without water for up to a month.

The laying of new pipes is expected to improve water delivery. Normal water supplies are expected mid next week.
Some suburbs had no water yesterday, while others had erratic supplies.
