THE Roman Catholic Church yesterday held its annual national day of prayer at the Archdiocese of Bulawayo to pray for the nation to have peaceful general and presidential elections next year.
Vicar General for the Bulawayo Archdiocese Father Hlakanipha Dube said the annual gathering involved women from St Anne’s Church and all over the country coming together to pray.
“This year women prayed for peace in the country ahead of next year’s elections. They also prayed for their families, orphans and widows. The women came from all corners of Zimbabwe from Zambezi Valley to Mutare and were driven to come by their faith,” said Fr Dube.
The national day of prayer was attended by women from all the church’s eight dioceses namely Archdiocese of Bulawayo, Diocese of Gweru, Diocese of Hwange, Diocese of Masvingo, Archdiocese of Harare, Diocese of Chinhoyi, Diocese of Gokwe and Diocese of Mutare.
The prayer session began with a march from St Bernard’s Primary School to Fatima Vocational Training Centre where the prayer day was held. Fr Dube added that more than 1 000 women had come to the prayer day and this year’s session was hosted in Bulawayo and the hosting diocese changes annually.
