CHRISTIAN Brothers College (CBC)’s rugby team rounded up their participation in the 2023 “Best of the Week” Easter Festival in South Africa with a draw against Benoni High School on Field A, in Krugersdorp High, South Africa yesterday.
The Babongile Ncube-captained Hornets drew their last encounter 10-10 after winning one match and losing one in their two opening games.
They won their second match of the festival 38-15 against the hosts, after they had lost their opening game against Hoërskool Bastion 33-13.
Yesterday’s action brought an end to an action packed Easter holiday for the Nelson Madida coached Hornets who are now preparing for the Saint John’s Puredrop Derby Festival to be held from May 1 to 7.
The other Zimbabwean teams that played yesterday on the final day of the festival are Hillcrest College, who lost their game against Hoërskool Randburg 18-10 while Hellenic Academy were thumped by Hoërskool Bastion 62-7. Prince Edward also lost their match against Eye of the Tiger Rugby Academy 23-12 as the Zimbabwean schools failed to get it right on the final day.

However, rugby was not the only sport taking place during the festival as there were hockey games as well.
Hillcrest College continued their winning streak to end their campaign on a high with a 1-0 win over Rand Park High School while Hellenic also ended with a win after recording a 1-0 win as well over Waterstone College Independent School.
Saint George’s College also went on to impress on the turf with a 1-0 triumph over the hosts, Krugersdorp High to round up an impressive round of games for the Zimbabwean schools.
The festival was for schools in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
For some of the Zimbabwean schools that were in South Africa, focus now shifts to the Prince Edward Rugby Festival later this month. The fiesta will be part of the school’s celebration of 125 years of existence and will run from April 24 to 29. – @brandon_malvin
