CHRISTIAN Brothers College (CBC) were crowned champions of the 2024 Falcon College 6s Cricket Under-16 tournament after defeating the hosts by six wickets.
Playing five overs a side, CBC were sent in to field first by the hosts and restricted them to 59/2. They went on to chase down the target in 3, 3 overs, finishing on 60/1 to take home the top accolade.
CBC’s Sandile Ndlovu took one wicket for three runs in his one-over spell for the eventual champions. He is the only bowler not to concede double figures with Brandon Chirwa, Ivan Mtungwazi, Marshall Hamandishe and Pilate Ndlovu conceding 12, 10, 18 and 15 runs respectively. Luke Rosenfels top-scored for Falcon with 31 runs off 15 balls before he retired.
Hamandishe and Ndlovu would go on to lead CBC’s chase. The former top scored with a brilliant 23 runs not out from just six deliveries. His innings consisted of two fours and as many sixes. Ndlovu made 22 runs not out from 10 balls with three fours and one maximum.
The only CBC wicket that fell in their chase was Mtungwazi who was bowled by Chad Shearing on five runs.
In their round-robin games, the Bulawayo-based side saw off challenge from St. Johns College (won by 14 runs), Lomagundi College (won by nine wickets), Falcon Under-16 B (won by 58 runs), and Lomagundi College (won by five runs).
They suffered defeats at the hands of Falcon (33 runs loss), Hellenic Academy (eight wickets loss), and St. George’s College (10 runs loss).
With CBC winning the final, Lomagundi College edged St. George’s by eight wickets in the third-place play-off match. Lomagundi restricted St. George’s to 69/2 in five overs before going on to chase down the target with one ball left to go, finishing on 70/2.
