A special tribute concert honouring the late gospel star Eric Pheli Moyo will take place tomorrow, organised by the gospel ensemble Vocal Ex.
Eric Moyo, who passed away on December 20 last year, was not only one of Vocal Ex’s founding leaders but was also a key member of The Healing Project by Simangenkosi ‘Mantongande’ Nkala, a UK-based gospel singer. The Healing Project is set to be launched at the same event.
The concert, to be held at the Family of God auditorium in Bulawayo, will feature performances by prominent local gospel acts, including Mai Mwamuka, Joyful Praise BICC, AOG Praise Team, Siza Mdlongwa, Snowy, and Vocal Ex.
According to the event’s organisers, several surprise appearances by South African artistes are anticipated, with the performers expected to arrive in Bulawayo this morning.
“High-profile artistes are flying into the country today, alongside Mantongande and Lindelani Mkhize, to celebrate the life of Eric Moyo and attend the album launch,” said one of the organisers.
“There’s going to be a huge surprise.”
Eric Moyo tragically passed away after collapsing on stage during a performance with Joyous Celebration in South Africa. He succumbed to a brain bleed and died at a hospital in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, on December 20, 2023.
Moyo was widely recognised as the first winner of Idols East Africa, a title that earned him a recording contract. He later joined the celebrated South African gospel group, Joyous Celebration, further cementing his legacy in the gospel music world.
