CCC legislator for Harare Metropolitan’s Sunningdale Constituency, Maureen Kademaunga (38), and two other opposition party officials have been arrested on allegations of attempted murder and malicious damage to property after three people were attacked just before last month’s election and a vehicle burnt.

The other two suspects are Ward 10 Councillor Clayd Mashozhera (49) and David Jessub (40), who were on the police wanted list.

They are alleged to have attacked three people in Harare on August 23, before burning a Toyota Spacio vehicle.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the attack took place at the corner of Boshoff Drive and Seke Road near Metro Peech, Harare.

“A Toyota Spacio Vehicle registration number ADH 1690 was destroyed during the attack,” he said.

Asst Comm Nyathi said the suspects were allegedly using a Toyota Mark X car, which belongs to Kademaunga, a silver Honda Fit and another vehicle which is yet to be identified, when they blocked the car and attacked the three people inside.

The suspects will appear in court in due course.

Their arrest comes after a reward of US$1 000 cash was also offered to anyone who would supply credible information leading to the location and subsequent arrest of those responsible for the attack.
