THE Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) has placed Zimbabwe firmly on the global stage of sustainable agriculture, with its chief executive officer, Mrs Rosemary Mpofu, championing responsible livestock practices at the ongoing Sustainable Livestock Transformation Conference in Rome.
As a panellist, Mrs Mpofu underscored CCZ’s unwavering commitment to promoting safe and sustainable livestock production through collaborative approaches.
“Mrs Mpofu emphasised CCZ’s commitment to promoting safe and sustainable livestock practices, highlighting collaborative efforts with key stakeholders.
“Mrs Mpofu underscored the importance of collaboration between CCZ, the Government, regulatory bodies, industry associations, and NGOs to ensure farmers adhere to established quality standards for health and safety in livestock production,” CCZ said.
The CCZ chief executive noted that such standards are vital in protecting consumers from health risks such as antimicrobial resistance, which has become a growing global public health threat.
“By advocating for responsible livestock management, CCZ aims to safeguard both consumer health and well-being and the competitiveness of local producers in global markets,” she said.
The high-level Rome gathering brings together international stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, producers, and consumer advocates, to share experiences and showcase actionable solutions for sustainable livestock transformation.
“Mrs Mpofu’s participation highlights Zimbabwe’s commitment to adopting best practices in livestock production, aligning with global efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and protect public health,” the CCZ said.
Mrs Mpofu’s presence at the global platform also demonstrates the Second Republic’s broader vision of driving agricultural transformation while ensuring consumer protection remains at the heart of development policies.
