THE Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) on Tuesday conducted a consumer complaint harvesting clinic in Bulawayo as part of efforts to engage with customers and collect grievances for resolution.

Provincial Consumer Protection Officer for Bulawayo Metropolitan, Ms Fortunate Sikirwayi, said the initiative is in line with Section 55 of the Consumer Protection Act [Chapter 14:44], which mandates the council to handle consumer disputes through conciliation and arbitration.

“We have now rolled out consumer clinics nationwide as a proactive initiative to directly engage with consumers and collect complaints for resolution. Today’s clinic recorded a significant turnout, with many consumers coming forward to share their grievances,” she said.

Ms Sikirwayi said the major concerns raised included the rejection of the ZiG currency, particularly by small retail outlets, as well as the continued circulation of counterfeit and substandard products on the market.

“These issues are of serious concern, and we want to assure the public that all complaints received will be addressed. The council will engage relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure these matters are resolved,” she said.
She added that the outreach programme will continue across various parts of Bulawayo.

“We also wish to inform consumers that these clinics will continue across different areas in Bulawayo. We therefore encourage members of the public to follow our social media platforms for updates on upcoming clinic locations so that they can bring forward their concerns,” said Ms Sikirwayi.

CCZ said the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen consumer protection and promote fair trading practices in the marketplace.
