Public consultations on the Consumer Protection Bill will commence in the next two weeks with the public expected to input into the new law.
The new law will result in consumers being empowered by the establishment of a Consumer Court and a Consumer Protection Commission.
Consultative workshops will start on November 18 in Bulawayo, followed by Gwanda on the 20th, Gweru on November 26, Chiwundura on November 27 and in Mutoko on December 16.
From December 3 – 12, the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe will be conducting board technical committees and other stakeholder meetings.
Other stakeholder meetings will be held next year in Masvingo on January 14, Mutare 19 and Mashonaland West at the end of January.
CCZ chairperson Mr Philip Bvumbe said the stakeholder consultations will culminate in a National Consultative Workshop to be held on February 18 next year.
“The Consumer Protection Bill has been introduced in all the provinces,” said Mr Bvumbe.
“Our teams are currently working on the technical issues on the Bill.
“We have received some recommendations from other stakeholders which we will incorporate into final document,” said Mr Bvumbe.
The Consumer Protection Bill will result in the establishment of a Consumer Court specifically to deal with the area of enforcement which was lacking in the previous legislation.
