ZANU-PF Second Secretary Cde Kembo Mohadi has tasked party members to heighten mass mobilisation in their communities from the grassroot level to ensure that the revolutionary party wins by a higher margin to silence detractors who are bent on disrupting the country’s economic growth.

Addressing scores of party members at Phelandaba Stadium in Gwanda in Matabeleland South province yesterday, Cde Mohadi said this year’s Zanu-PF campaign is largely focused on highlighting what has been delivered by the Second Republic over the past five years.

“I know Zanu-PF will win and I don’t doubt it at all, but I want us to win by a high margin which will silence our detractors. We want to send a strong message to our detractors that the country can do without them,” he said.

“We are the people’s party and the only party in the country that liberated the country. We already have some council seats because the opposition failed to field candidates. How can someone be able to rule the country if they can’t organise people to represent the party?”

Cde Mohadi said when the Second Republic came into power it came up with Vision 2030 as a major tool for alleviating poverty and developing the country.

He said after realising that food insecurity was one of the threats likely to hinder the country from attaining Vision 2030, the Second Republic’s first mission was to eradicate food insecurity in the face of climate change through the construction of dams and the development of irrigation schemes.

Government has rehabilitated 14 irrigation schemes in Matabeleland South and established new ones.

“Several dams are under construction across the country and one of them is Lake Gwayi Shangani in Matabeleland North which will become a major water source in the region. We have Tuli Manyange Dam in Gwanda District, which will support irrigation development in the country,” said Cde Mohadi.

He said since Government introduced the climate proofed agriculture programme, Pfumvudza/Intwasa three years ago, the country has managed to produce surplus food.

“We want to create a green belt all over the country. We want Zimbabwe to be a green zone, we don’t want to depend on other countries for food. Last year we realised a surplus wheat harvest for the first time in decades as Government works towards eliminating food insecurity.”

Cde Mohadi said Hwange Thermal Power Station Unit 7 and 8 has helped to boost the power supply and eliminate load-shedding.

He said construction of the Beitbridge- Harare- Chirundu Highway is almost complete while the Bulawayo- Victoria Falls Road rehabilitation has started.

Cde Mohadi said the modernisation of the Beitbridge Border Post is testimony of the Second Republic’s commitment to developing the country.

“When we took over in 2017 our minerals were giving us US$3 billion annually but this has jumped to  US$12 billion. As we speak our agricultural sector is now at US$8 billion,” he said.

“This is all the work of Zanu-PF. We have finished refurbishing the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and we will now move to the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Airport. There is a huge difference between now and the time the Second Republic took over.”

Cde Mohadi said Government under the Second Republic introduced the devolution funds which have decentralised implementation of development projects.

He said the Presidential Rural Development Scheme, which was launched in Makorokoro, Mangwe in December 2021 is already benefiting the community.

Under the Presidential Rural Development Scheme, Government will drill and equip one borehole in each of the country’s 35 000 villages.

The programme is expected to uplift over 1,8 million households from poverty into prosperity through increased household incomes as well as the creation of employment and empowerment opportunities.

Each village will also be empowered with a nutrition garden with a wide range of fruit trees, sweet potatoes and vines to benefit communities.”

Under the Education 5.0 model, our colleges and universities have been empowered to manufacture products such as sanitisers and masks among other products. We also have innovation hubs that produce syringes, fertilisers and various chemicals,” said Cde Mohadi

He urged party members to vote peacefully and prove that the party is peaceful and united.

Meanwhile, addressing a rally at Dulivhadzimu Stadium at the weekend, Cde Mohadi lauded the media for telling the Zimbabwean elections story

He said the media has so far done well in telling the real Zimbabwean story concerning the elections since the start of the campaigns.

“As the party, we extend our gratitude to the media for factually telling the story of our elections since we started campaigns. I want to encourage you to keep up the good work, and at the same time, we wish that our supporters and every Zimbabwean maintains this calmness and peace before, during and after elections,” said Cde Mohadi

“Our expectation is that on 23 August we will all go out in our numbers and vote for our leader, President Mnangagwa and his team to give them a fresh mandate”.

Cde Mohadi said it is important for politicians to continue encouraging their supporters to observe peace throughout the election period.

He warned Zimbabweans against voting for inept opposition parties in urban councils in the forthcoming elections.

“The opposition-run councils, especially those under the CCC have failed dismally to deliver on people-centred services. The electorate must vote for the ruling party to send a strong message to the country’s detractors that Zanu PF is a people’s party,” said Cde Mohadi.
