Cde Mudzimu confered hero status

In a statement yesterday, Zanu-PF secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa said: “His Excellency, the President and First Secretary of Zanu-PF, Cde R.G Mugabe, has conferred liberation hero status on the late Cde Tendekayi Mudzimu who died on March 5, 2013.”
Zanu-PF Mashonaland East provincial chairperson Cde Ray Kaukonde paid tribute to President Mugabe for recognising the role Cde Mudzimu played since the liberation struggle.
“We have lost a great man who was very instrumental in the establishment of Mudzi district.
“He moulded a lot of people including me by teaching us that we should be guided by virtues of hard work so that we would not be corrupt.
“He played a crucial role during the liberation struggle in aiding the struggle.
“He also facilitated the establishment of Kotwa Growth Point among other development projects he embarked on before and after the liberation  struggle,”  said  Cde Kaukonde.
Cde Mudzimu was born on May 22, 1932.
He did his education at Mutoko Mission before proceeding to Nyadiri Mission where he enrolled for Standard Six.
He then studied through various correspondence colleges among them Central Africa Correspondence College.
In a statement, Zanu-PF provincial leadership said Cde Mudzimu joined politics during the African National Congress and later joined Zapu, NDP up to Zanu-PF.
“During this period he organised recruits to be trained and assisted cadres to cross to Mozambique through Nyamapanda Border Post driving his own lorries.
“He also used to support freedom fighters by providing food and clothes from his shops in Nyamapanda.
“During these hard times he was continuously interrogated and threatened with death until the people’s Government in 1980,” said the party.
From 1980, Cde Mudzimu served in various capacities in both Zanu-PF and Mudzi Rural District Council.
He served as Zanu-PF district party chairperson for Nyamapanda District.
He also served as councillor for five years before serving as council chairperson for Mudzi Rural District Council for 15 years.
He served as commissioner for Mudzi Rural District Council for five years. Cde Mudzimu was then became an alderman in 2004.
He is survived by two sons, two daughters, nine grandchildren and one great grand child.
