CDE Maud Svipira (73), a war collaborator who succumbed to heart complications, has been described as a true patriot and a philanthropist.
The war hero, who penned the song, “Kuvengana Kushayamoyo” was buried at Chinhoyi Provincial Heroes Acre yesterday where Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Marian Chombo, fellow war collaborators and family members spoke highly of her.
Her burial at the provincial shrine is an honour by the Second Republic to the war collaborators for their role in liberating Zimbabwe.
Cde Svipira joined the liberation struggle in 1970 as a collaborator who among other duties cooked, did laundry and conveyed messages for the freedom fighters.
Addressing mourners, Cde Chombo said Cde Svipira had a spirit that helped to give guidance and direction to the freedom fighters.
“The late was a member of the Zhanda Youth before joining the movement in the 1970s. From 1970, she worked together with other collaborators in providing morale, cooking and washing for freedom fighters,” she said.
“After the war, she became a well-known philanthropist who helped orphans and widows.”
A family spokesperson thanked President Emmerson Mnangagwa for according the late provincial hero status.
