Where the party is at?

Celebrate the end of exams in style at a mad party in Club Karma on November 30 dubbed “Party Yatanga”. Local teens Nyasha “Crooger” Gurure and Masimba “Mik” Manjengwa are part of the crew that put it together “For the Love of Hip-Hop”

One of the most happening gigs to look forward, “Party Yatanga” the title was adopted from the chart topping anthem by hip-hop collaboration MMT who are going to put up live performances there together with teen group “3sixty” among others. As the countdown begins be warned that “No Under-18s allowed”.

Teens dominate awards
Last week most of us had a joll and drooled over the 2013 EMA awards. It is great to know that our very own Zim Hip-Hop Awards are back with a bang and this year, more than before, teens are making their presence felt.

The ceremony comes alive on December 11 at 7Arts Theatre but so far a number of teen artistes were spotted on the nominations list.
Bluffhill-based Crooger (19) could just be new face of hip-hop as tops the list of teens carving their names in Zim Hip-Hop. With three nominations so far, he battles for honours against big names in the trade for Best Newcomer Award, Best Album and Best Album Art.

Teri Joc and “Boneman” Tinashe Chirikure (18) from Westgate make it on the list after being nominated for Best High School Act award.
The same category sees St Ignatius High School group “Overdose Boys” baying for the top spot too.

Now please step aside High School Musical because those guys are dope. Our money is on these guys and we hope they win.
Decoded

This is a segment where we keep you in the know on some of the latest teen codes in urban vocabulary. New stuff pops up all the time and thanks to us you can finally cope with it all. Check out the ones that are trending on the Online Urban Dictionary.

It literally means “too long, I didn’t read it”. If you are one of those weird people who likes sending long boring messages and status updates on Facebook or jokes on WhatsApp, do not be surprised to see this abbreviation on your comments.

Yolo
It is an abbreviation for “You Only Live Once”. It was popularised by rapper Drake in the song “the Motto”, at least according to Cool Lifestyle.

This has become some sort of dumb excuse for something stupid that a person  has done.
It is also said to be one of the most annoying abbreviations ever!

Example
Guy 1: “Hey, I heard that you broke your leg falling off the balcony at that party”
Guy 2: “Yeah but hey YOLO”
