A COCKTAIL for women with albinism will be hosted by advocacy organisation, the Alive Albinism Initiative, in Hatfield tomorrow.

The aim of the event is to bring together women who live with albinism to celebrate themselves, exchange stories and ideas, and hear inspiring speeches from those who have overcome challenges associated with the condition.

Alive Albinism Initiative founder, Gwen Mushonga Marange, has emphasised the importance of empowering women with albinism.

She also stressed that the event is a safe space where women with albinism can be celebrated and accepted.

The event will include business and health ideas as well as discussion of challenges faced by women with albinism, such as finding a marriage partner.

“In line with the just-ended international Albinism Awareness Day, we have decided to celebrate the day in a new way.

“In past years, we would march in town, holding placards, among other activities, but this year we have decided to shower women with love and celebrate their worth.

“We have decided to make it for women only because they are the most affected group,” she said.

Marange said they invited mothers and guardians of children with albinism to exchange knowledge and information about the condition.

“Our goal is to inspire all women with albinism to embrace their unique features and not feel embarrassed or left out.

“It’s events like these that help break down social barriers and promote inclusivity.

“By celebrating individual differences, we can create a world that is more accepting and compassionate for all.”
