Celebration Churches International has taken heed of Government’s call to avoid public gatherings with more than 100 people as they have implemented alternative arrangements for their Sunday services.
In a statement released Thursday, the church’s chairman Fungayi Mandivei advised members on the new developments.
“As Celebration Churches International, we are honouring Government’s recommendation to suspend all gatherings of more than 100 persons with immediate effect,” said Mandivei.
“In the context of Celebration Churches within Zimbabwe, those churches within the stipulated number threshold should continue to meet but exercise due caution and follow the prescribed health guidelines.
“We encourage churches that are beyond the stated guidelines to be innovative and creative in finding safe ways of hosting their church meetings without violating Government stipulations.”
Celebration Church Borrowdale, which attracts hundreds of congregants during their services, have decided to cancel their Sunday service which will be streamed live on social media.
“We would like to announce that there would be no public gathering for our Sunday service at Celebration Church Borrowdale.
“A core team of less than 100 people will come in on Sunday to facilitate a service which will be streamed live for all our members and churches to watch and be involved from their homes.”
The service will be available on the church’s Facebook page from 9am, with the transcribed message being availed on Whatsapp and the Celebration Church app.
From Friday, Government has banned public gatherings of more than 100 people as a move to combat the spread of coronavirus. The ban is set to be reviewed after a 60-day period.
