THE people of Zimbabwe are set to unite in honour of a legendary figure, Queen Lozikeyi, on September 13 at 14th Avenue, Kopa Emhlangeni near Inyathi Mission.

The event, dubbed Queen Loziba Thebe Day, will be held under the theme Silondoloza Ubuntu Lamasiko Ethu (Preserving Our Humanity and Culture).

Organised by the iNdlovukazi Loziba Thebe Development Trust, the celebration pays tribute to Queen Lozikeyi, the senior queen of King Lobengula, ruler of the Ndebele people in what is now Zimbabwe.

Lozikeyi Dlodlo played a pivotal role during the Anglo-Matabele War of 1896, where she notably took charge of the King’s army.

The Trust’s chairman, Vuyo Mpofu, said the event follows the successful unveiling of Queen Loziba’s tombstone last year.

“Queen Loziba Thebe, the beloved wife of King Mzilikazi, is remembered for her significant contribution to the Ndebele Kingdom. The King’s profound grief following her passing led to the establishment of a new royal residence at Mhlahlandlela.

“The Queen Loziba Thebe Day commemoration is being organised by the Khumalo and Thebe families in collaboration with our trust.

“It has been strategically scheduled to take place a week after the annual King Mzilikazi Commemoration, allowing attendees to participate in both events,” said Mpofu.

Mpofu added that they are calling on the corporate sector and individuals to support the occasion.

“Preparations for the event are progressing well and the organisers warmly invite corporate partners, government departments, and well-wishers to lend their support to this important commemoration.

“Your contribution will play a vital role in ensuring the success of this celebration of Queen Loziba’s life and enduring legacy,” Mpofu said.
