Muchineuta said in this year’s Valentine celebrations they would be urging adults to donate blood.
Muchineuta said in order to achieve their goal they had engaged Sandra Ndebele and Ndumiso Gumede who are going to be part of the occasion.
“Valentine’s is known as a moment of exchanging gifts for love and as an organisation we are saying come and give us a gift in the form of blood,” he said.
Muchineuta said their Valentine celebrations for this year would be held on 18 February in the Bulawayo central business district.
“We have decided to use this year’s Valentine’s celebrations to get blood from different lovers and the two icons will be there to encourage more people to donate,” he said.
Muchineuta said the icons were going to have an opportunity to address people before they could start donating.
“We want people to come especially couples and donate blood to our blood banks.
“Donating blood is another form of saving lives that are desperately in need of blood,” he said.
Muchineuta said his organisation was mainly depending on students to get blood, as adults were not forthcoming. We are going to use this year’s Valentine’s celebrations as a platform to encourage more people to donate blood.
“Eighty percent of blood in our stocks is donated by school children and the elderly only contribute 20 percent,” he said.
Muchineuta said in terms of consumption 80 percent of the elderly were in need of that blood contributed by children.
“We want to urge people out there to learn to be regular blood donors as you never know when you might need blood also,” he said.
Muchineuta said he hoped such events would continue if they get financial assistance from other organisations.
“We are appealing to the corporate world to kindly assist us in organising such events in the future as this will help us fill our blood banks,” he said.
Muchineuta said on 18 February people should come in their large numbers as there would be a lot of prizes to be won.
