Cellphone wife basher remanded

A 57-year-old Bulawayo man bashed his wife after she stumbled on two cellphones belonging to him and his mistress in their matrimonial bedroom.She then hid them.

Arnten Ncube of house number 32347, Entumbane, Bulawayo, appeared before West Commonage magistrate Temba Chimiso facing allegations of assaulting his wife, Etta.

Ncube, who is employed by the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ), pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to April 11 for trial.

The State will seek to prove that on April 1 and at around 6:30PM, Arnten arrived at his house in the company of his girlfriend and forced his wife to sleep in the spare bedroom.

Arnten then slept in the matrimonial bed with his girlfriend. He and his girlfriend woke up the next morning and went away but forgot their cellphones which Etta took and hid.

After an hour, Arnten and his girlfriend came back asking for their cellphones and Etta told him that she had not seen them. That angered Arnten who then assaulted her with open hands several times all over her body.

Etta then gave Arnten back the cellphones and went and made a report to the police, leading to his arrest.
