CENTENARY Government High School head has said the school’s new bus is expected to enhance the transportation of students to and from educational trips, sports events, and excursions, ensuring their safety, efficiency, comfort, joy, and convenience.
The school is currently a home to 35 dedicated teaching staff, nine hard-working non-teaching staff, and 902 students.
The school head, Mrs Favourite Mafararikwa, said the new bus marks a major boost to the school’s efforts to provide quality and inclusive education.
The bus, which was officially handed over to the school on Tuesday, is a significant step towards making Centenary Government High School a model educational institution in Muzarabani District.
“Managing and nurturing a learner population of this magnitude requires commitment, innovation, and resources—and today’s commissioning is a shining example of what can be achieved when a community unites for a common purpose.
“To the SDC—we salute you. As a school guided by the Heritage-Based Curriculum, we strive to provide education that is rooted in our identity, culture, environment, and lived realities. This curriculum is not confined within classroom walls.
“It requires learners to explore, observe, research, and interact with their heritage in real-life contexts—be it environmental study, cultural appreciation, community engagement, or practical entrepreneurship.
“The acquisition of this bus will therefore broaden our learners’ horizons. It will enable educational tours, heritage excursions, sporting activities, and outreach programmes that reinforce experiential learning.
“With this bus, our students will not merely read about heritage—they will experience it, touch it, and live it. This is how we shape well-rounded, grounded, confident and culturally rooted learners,” she said.
Speaking at the ceremony, the guest of honour Provincial Admin Officer Mrs Mupandaguta, on behalf of the PED, expressed gratitude to the school administration, SDC, and parents for their tireless efforts in making the project a reality.
She commended the school for adhering to government procurement procedures and seeking guidance from relevant authorities.
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the school administration for complying with the stipulated government procurement procedures and constantly consulting the district and provincial education offices for guidance from these offices.
“To the SDC and parents, I applaud you for working together towards making this school a conducive learning environment. I urge you to turn this school into a model government high school in Muzarabani District.
“Remember this the only government high school in this district. A model school status can only be attained by making sure that as parents we play our part, that of paying school fees and levies.
“All forms of development stem from funding and the chief funders are you the parents.”
The official urged parents to support the school’s development projects, including piggery, and encouraged other schools to emulate Centenary Government High School’s success.
She emphasised the importance of responsible use and maintenance of the bus, stressing the need for rigorous training of the driver and enforcement of safety protocols.
“As I commission the bus, I urge the administration and SDC to commit to ensuring the safe and responsible use and servicing of the bus.
“The driver has to undergo rigorous training and the enforcement of strict safety protocols to protect the students. “I have no doubt that bus will serve our community well for many years to come.”
