The ministry posted on its X handle yesterday: “today, @MoHCCZim Minister Dr Douglas Mombeshora toured the burnt storage facility at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital to assess the damage and ongoing investigations. The fire destroyed the roof, solar panels, and old patient records dating back nearly 20 years, as well as old mattresses and beds awaiting disposal. Part of the rooftop solar power system – supplying electricity to both the hospital laboratory and national reference lab – was also damaged. Although one inverter was affected, the hospital lab remains functional through dual power supply (solar and ZESA).’’
The fire was contained and power supply was restored. The cause remains under investigation.
The blaze destroyed the roof of the storage area, a section of the hospital’s rooftop solar power system, and a number of old hospital items, including beds and mattresses awaiting disposal. Also lost in the fire were patient records dating back nearly two decades.
During his visit, Dr Mombeshora was briefed on the extent of the damage and the status of ongoing investigations. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined and authorities say investigations are underway. – ZBC.
