Chadya finally misses Ngezi game

Bruce Chikuni

NGEZI Platinum Stars are set to play without their first choice goalkeeper, Nelson Chadya, for the first time in two seasons when they meet Herentals in the Chibuku Super Cup quarter final at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow.

The match was initially slated for Mandava but it was rescheduled on Thursday. Chadya is going to miss this fixture owing to national team’s duty as he is part of the Warriors who are set to play Botswana in an invitational Independence Cup match in Gaborone today.

This presents an opportunity for Marion Chang, who as yet to get the nod ahead Chadya since his arrival from Triangle last season.

Chang knows this opportunity was going to be taken by Biggie Tamera, who was promoted to the senior team from their developmental side had he not been injured.

The former Tsholotsho FC ‘keeper also knows this is his golden chance to prove to coach Takesure Chiragwi that he can always count on him.

Chadya has been one of the team’s standout performers managing 14 clean sheets in this campaign.

Chang has not been tested for a while and it remains to be seen what he got in store to help their cause of completing a league and cup double.

Chadya feels Chang has the capacity to help the team to progress to the next stage of the country’s flagship knockout tournament.

“He knows what the coaches want and I’m not worried about him because I know that whoever gets the chance on that day will deliver.

“I have learnt a lot from Chang and he is a senior player who does not need to be told a lot of things, and I do not know the situation at the club right now but I have enough confidence in our goal keeping department.

“We are not champions yet, we still have to get more wins as possible and everyone knows that we have to do well in this tournament,” said Chadya.
