MASVINGO Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ezra Chadzamira says the province is firmly on course to achieve food security on the back of booming cereals production.

He was speaking at a wheat field day that was held at his Cresta of Ibeka Farm on the outskirts of Masvingo.

Minister Chadzamira and his wife, Mrs Euphrasia Chadzamira, are expecting a bumper wheat crop of nearly 200 tonnes.

The Chadzamira’s wheat crop straddles 30 hectares and the crop’s anticipated yield per hectare is 6,5 to 7 tonnes.

Speaking on the sidelines of the field day, Minister Chadzamira attributed his success to hard work and challenged other farmers across the province to fully utilise land and water bodies to grow food.

The minister rallied farmers across the province to help build Masvingo’s food security and complement President Mnangagwa’s sterling work in shepherding Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy.

Mrs Chadzamira attributed the farm’s success to good farming practices and urged fellow farmers to tap advice from agricultural experts to boost yields.

Valleys Seeds Commercial Business Director Mr Tich Maponga said it was encouraging that Masvingo was slowly morphing into an agricultural powerhouse thanks to exemplary farmers like the Chadzamiras.
