Chafa tries luck at Wits

HOW Mine defensive linkman, Devon Chafa, has left for South Africa where he will undergo a week-long trial stint at Absa premiership side, Bidvest Wits.

The former Dynamos star who was in action for “Chikurupati” in their nil-all draw against Chapungu on Sunday, left for South Africa yesterday for the trials.

Chafa’s manager, Gibson Mahachi confirmed the developments.

“It’s true that Bidvest Wits want to assess Chafa for a week-long trial since this coming weekend is on the Fifa calendar to hold international matches so there will be no activity in their league.

“They want to take advantage of the break to have a look at him and if he manages to make the grade then he will be signed during the next transfer window,” he said.

In the event the DC Academy product manages to impress, he will join former Warriors right back Onismor Bhasera who is already in the books of the Clever Boys.

Chafa quit the Glamour Boys early this year after negotiations for a new contract broke down with the sticking point being a salary cut which was introduced at Dynamos after the club’s principal sponsor, BancABC drastically cut salaries.

The defensive linkman is said to have demanded a salary of more than $1,500 a month and a total of $21,000 for a year’s loan deal, of which half would be shared between the player’s manager Mahachi and parent club DC Academy.

Chafa together with teammate Tawanda Muparati later found sanctuary at How Mine after agreeing onterms.
