THE construction site of Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe was on Wednesday abuzz with excitement as the installation of over 15 000 bucket seats and roofing was underway.

Prophet Walter Magaya and his partner Mr Shepherd Chahwanda, with their hands-on approach to make sure that a state-of-the-art stadium takes shape with the precision and uniqueness it deserves, were monitoring scores of employees who went about performing their tasks.

Upon completion, Kwekwe is poised to become a major sports hub, thanks to the vision of Prophet Magaya and Mr Chahwanda, who lent his name to the stadium.

Mr Chahwanda is the owner of Central Region Soccer League side Hardrock FC, which is fighting for promotion into the Premier Soccer League.

The state-of-the-art facility is set to drive sports development in the country.

The Chahwanda Stadium is being built on a large piece of land along the Gokwe-Kwekwe highway in the gold mining town.

The stadium, according to Prophet Magaya, will accommodate thousands of spectators.

It will also feature a range of modern amenities, including a B stadium arena, clubhouse, changing rooms and over 24 ablution facilities, all with eight-seater toilets, a Presidential suite, a clinic and a ZIFA house.

“The stadium’s design is intended to meet the highest international standards, ensuring that it will be a world-class venue for sports competitions and events.

“We have four sections, namely, the VVIP stands with a Presidential suite, VIP stands with a media room and changing areas, and two other stands,” he said.

Prophet Magaya said he was proud to note that the roof and bucket seats were now being installed.

“The headline should be that we have started installing the bucket system; we are talking of over 15 000 buckets and they will be completed very soon. The roof is being installed as well. The ablution facilities here are so many as well,” he said.

Prophet Magaya said the construction of Chahwanda Stadium was progressing steadily, with completion expected in two months.

“We are deeply committed to delivering world-class sports infrastructure, and with Chahwanda Stadium, our goal is to establish a thriving sports hub where young people can train, compete and hone their skills.

“The stadium will also offer a range of amenities for spectators, including
catering outlets, toilets and car parking facilities.

“Upon completion, Chahwanda Stadium will be a prominent landmark in Kwekwe, and a source of pride for the city and its residents,” he said.
