DAY one of the Chamber of Mines Golf Championships kicked off with heightened energy on Saturday as over 150 golfers took to the greens, turning the event into more than just a sporting contest but a hub for national business networking and celebration.
Hosted by platinum giant Mimosa Mining Company, the two-day event has drawn players and executives from across Zimbabwe, with Saturday’s round bringing together mining professionals, service providers, suppliers, and key stakeholders in the sector.
Chamber of Mines CEO Isaac Kwesu praised the event for creating a platform for business engagement: “This year’s edition of the Chamber of Mines Championships has been a great networking opportunity for the business community,” said Kwesu.
He added that while the first day featured a broader field, including service providers, Sunday’s finale is the official championship contest.
Mimosa, last year’s winners, earned the right to host this edition and selected Bulawayo, citing the superior quality of golf courses in the region. The choice also dovetails with a significant milestone: 100 years of platinum mining a legacy that began with the Granger brothers and has continued under various ownerships to the present day.
The tournament concludes on Sunday with the championship round, followed by a dinner and prize-giving ceremony in the evening.
