NATIONAL team assistant coach and former relegated Buffaloes FC gaffer, Saul Chaminuka, could be leaving the eastern border of the country on his way to newly promoted Castle Lager Premiership side, Border Strikers in Beitbridge, Post Sport has learnt.
Under the tutelage of little known Never Malunga, Border Strikers became the third team from Beitbridge to make it into the Premiership after Underhill and Tripple B had short-lived flirtations with top-flight football.
Apparently, if the move comes into fruition, this would be the second time that Chaminuka has coached in the southern small border town after taking charge of Underhill back in 2008.
The well travelled gaffer on domestic scene is yet to rejoin camp a week after training resumed at Mutare Showgrounds ahead of the Eastern Region Division One season.
Although Chaminuka refuted claims that he was leaving Buffaloes, reliable sources at the team confided in this newspaper that the experienced football tactician is leaving the relegated Mutare side heading for the newly promoted Beitbridge outfit.
“I am still at Buffaloes and I can only announce anything when it is ripe. At the moment I am focusing at coming back to Mutare and see whether we can fight our way back into the Premiership,” said Chaminuka in a telephone interview on Wednesday.
Although Chaminuka pledged allegiance to Buffaloes at the end of the 2015 season after the team got relegated from the Premiership, it appears an offer from a Premiership club could be too enticing for Chaminuka to resist.“He is leaving the club and we are reliably told that he is leaving for Beitbridge to take over at Border Strikers. It is unfortunate that I cannot speak on record because of contractual restrictions,” said a source who declined to be named.
