SUSPENDED Dynamos coach Saul Chaminuka has revealed his plans to retire from football by the end of this year.
The veteran gaffer is currently frozen out of the fallen giants due to indiscipline and incompetence. He was forced off for what Dynamos termed deviance, along with his failure to drag the team out of the relegation mire they find themselves in this season. The suspension is without any benefits and a charge sheet has since been drafted for him to be used when he appears at the club’s disciplinary hearing, which could kick him out entirely. The nomadic coach was also serving a two-match touchline ban from the Premier Soccer League when Dynamos decided to strike him off. He was found guilty of causing the abandonment of the match between FC Platinum and Dynamos on May 22 at Mandava with the unfortunate events that unfolded on the day triggered by the controversial awarding of a late penalty to the hosts when the scores were delicately tied at 1-1. And the PSL had last week instructed him not to sit in the dugout for DeMbare’s matches against Manica Diamonds at Rufaro and Chicken Inn at Barbourfields where assistant coach Philemon Mutyakureva took charge. However, the Harare giants decided to elbow the man they had entrusted with making sure the Glamour Boys ring-fenced their Premiership status, which has seemingly been a birthright since inception of the elite league.
But before that, Chaminuka, following a spate of brushes with the PSL for foul-mouthing match officials, had hinted he would walk off the coaching trenches. And he has reaffirmed that position telling Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday that “Sometimes you just wonder why things are taking a certain direction.
“I have made a decision to retire from coaching at the end of this year.
“This is not because I no longer want to watch football or discuss the game. But I have my personal reasons that made me come to this conclusion. Now, former Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu has been given the audacious bid to squeeze Dynamos out of the drop zone in the final 11 games of the season.
It’s an uphill task that the Zambian gaffer has to complete given there is an eight-point gap between the Glamour Boys and safety.
DeMbare welcome MWOS at Rufaro on Saturday hoping to get the maximum points off what would be only their third win of the season and possibly a huge confidence-booster.
