SAUL CHAMINUKA knows just how bad Dynamos have been this season but is adamant the giants will turn the corner and dodge the bullet.
The Glamour Boys are having a nightmarish term and are currently dabbling in the mire, occupying the second from last position on the log with only 15 points to their name.
They have been terrible this year, winning only two games in 19 matches, a new low for the biggest club in the country whose name is now an obvious feature in relegation debates.
Dynamos were outplayed in their 0-2 defeat to Herentals on Saturday, fuelling a new wave of uncertainty around the standard bearers of local football.
Their die-hard fans, who continue to grace matches, remained stuck on their traditional Vietnam stand, not shouting, not singing but pensively concerned.
But Chaminuka, who inherited the team from the axed Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe last month, expressed optimism the Glamour Boys will be able to drag themselves from the corner.
He said while the team is currently deep down the table, they have the means, and soon the personnel, to help them pull out of trouble.
“Relegation is never for us. I mean, we will survive. We are going to survive, certainly,” said Chaminuka.
“Things have not been well for us as a team. For some reason, it has always been negative no matter how hard we have tried to do well. But to talk of us being relegation candidates is to blow things out of proportion.
“We are never relegation material. We will fight well in time to secure ourselves what we deserve far from the relegation zone.”
The Glamour Boys’ major undoing has been their bluntness upfront after managing to score only six goals in 1 710 minutes of football.
They have the worst front line in the league, with even log anchors Kwekwe United, for all their chaos, managing to hit the target two more times than Dynamos.
Yet they have the sixth-best defence out of the lot, conceding only 13 times with their rearguard faring better than two of the clubs in the top four.
With 12th placed side Chicken Inn only five points ahead of DeMbare, Chaminuka said the gap is narrow and can be cut going into the final third of the season especially after he gets to sign sure-footed strikers this transfer window.
“The window having opened, we will bring in experienced players to attack and score goals and still survive. It’s too early to talk about relegation. Yes, we are in the relegation zone but that doesn’t mean that we are relegated,” he added.
“We need to start winning games, we need to score goals. And the window having opened, we are going to sign maybe one, two or three strikers, and we start scoring goals.
“I think in terms of the general game we are playing, we’re getting in there, but who is taking the shots? There’s no one as you have been witnessing.
“It’s not like we are always playing in our own half throughout the games. We also do have our moments where you would say, I think we’re going to score now, but we are not completing the phases.”
The seasoned coach is drawing a lot of positives from the fact that Dynamos are not losing a lot of games and can easily transform their draws into wins if they work on their range.
Dynamos have drawn almost 50 percent of the games they have played (nine), registered seven draws and won twice.
