The meeting was addressed by party organising secretary Mr Nelson Chamisa.
It came amid reports that the MDC-T failed to get aspiring candidates willing to contest parliamentary seats in Mwenezi West, Chiredzi North, Chiredzi South and Chivi South.
Sources said though Mr Chamisa came to Masvingo under the guise of launching his party’s door-door campaign, he was deployed to actually deal with factionalism in the province.
Mr Chamisa dismissed reports that that there were problems in his party in Masvingo, also stating that reports that his party had failed to get aspiring candidates for four constituencies were baseless.

He said his party simply wanted more candidates to file their nomination papers to enable his party to cast its net wide and also carefully understand those who were aspiring to represent it in those constituencies.
“It is not true at all that we failed to get any candidates from four constituencies who want to contest on our party ticket and in fact the truth is that we have simply said in those four constituencies we want more nomination papers to be submitted so that we can vet more candidates for us to be able to do careful and informed selection on the right candidates,’’ he said.
Mr Chamisa later launched his party’s campaign and urged supporters to register as voters.
The MDC-T has been hard hit by infighting in Masvingo which was ignited by allegations of favouritism and manipulation of the nomination process.
The party recently issued guidelines to primary elections and there has been an outcry over the rules.
Some party members feel the guidelines are designed to elbow some sitting legislators in favour of “new found friends” some who are even resident abroad.
