HE neither drove away in a VW Polo like he did last year nor receive a Toyota Fun Cargo like the 2013 winner. But still Champion Chiendaramwano was glad that he managed to defend the Musclemania bodybuilding title at Hapzen Plaza. Chiendaramwano got a gold medal, a mobile phone supplied by Astro, and 42 inch LCD flat screen while second-placed Isaac Chimuchenga got US$200, a phone and a silver medal.
Coming as the defending champion, Chienderamwano was under pressure to shrug off the competition from the small field of six other athletes who wanted the title as well.
The field was largely depleted after some of the top hulks like Victor Hungwe, Vincent Kandiyero, Zumailer Eusen Maman and Patson Chatedzuka did not enter as the event was postponed twice.
But, from the small field of entries, a champion had to be found and it was Champion who triumphed with a huge frame that was an epitome of a bodybuilder.
His biggest assets were his wide back and strong thighs while his muscularity and condition were almost perfect.
Chienderamwano still needs to work on his proportion.
Chimuchenga’s body was better proportioned, but his condition was not as superb.
Now the Botswana-based hulk is hoping to defend the Mr Zimbabwe title when the show is held at Harare International School this Saturday.
“I am just excited and very happy at defending the title. I worked hard the whole year and I have been on diet since June as I prepared for this event,” he said.
Chienderamwano said he ate a lot of proteins while limiting the carbohydrates as part of his diet but he was quick to point out that he did not face a stiff challenge this time.
Last year, Chiendaramwano shed tears after winning the grand first prize.
“The competition was very tough last year but this year, it was just a walk over and I could tell in the morning at the pre-judging,” he said.
But Chimuchenga felt he deserved the title.
After the show Chimuchenga had a heated argument with National Federation of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness chairman of judges’ panel Danny De Souza.
“I have won and lost several competitions but I just need the judges to tell me where I was coming short and no one is explaining.
“We love this sport and that’s why we compete but I am not happy with the outcome. I thought I had the proportion, symmetry and everything,” fumed Chimuchenga.
Mr Manicaland, Brighton Mazikana, came third to take a bronze medal while Eddie Marondera was fourth with Donald Maphosa coming fifth.
Paul Matimba was crowned the Musclemania juniors’ champion .
Fitness trainer Precious Mujuru from Aspire Muscle and Fitness Gym was crowned the Ms Figure ahead of the rather muscular Regina Jonga.
