The inaugural Chinhoyi Cultural Festival held over the weekend at African Roots Traditional Restaurant ended on a high note with several artists showcasing their works. Different cultural groups including Alaska, Rusununguko and Attack Jazz Band, who are winners of Chibuku Road to Fame and poets had a chance to dish out their works at the event that was attended by people from all walks of life.
Visual artists including Happymore Mushambavanhu showcased their work.
“The polarisation of our culture inspires me to craft these works so that our children know our roots as black people,” said Mushambavanhu.
Revellers had a great time as different traditional groups performed their dances including Mbende, Jaka, Ngororombe and Shangara.
Children from different schools had time to display their artworks.
After the event people were served with traditional food including Madras, mhunga, zviyo, goat and hare meat from the restaurant.
Organiser of the event who is also the director of African Roots Kudakwashe Machiri said they staged the festival event as a way of promoting Zimbabwean culture.
“People sometimes forget our cultural values so these events are there to remind them of our culture and we are happy with the response,” he said.
He hailed the Government for supporting the event which he said would be held annually.
“We have been supported by the Government and in line with the ZimAsset so we want to thank them,” he said.
Machiri promised that the next event will be bigger and better as they will have enough time to prepare.
