HIS name is Champion and for now he has a right to call himself champion. On Saturday, Champion Chiendaramwano was crowned the Mr Zimbabwe bodybuilding champion at Harare International School. He beat an impressive field of hulks to win the coveted title for the first time in his career.
The Botswana-based hulk first won from the heavyweight category where he beat Walter Karimanzira into second place and Tari Chirume who was third.
Chirume came into the competition under the spotlight after he won the last event in 2008 before the competition went of fthe radar while some of the big names in the game like Blessing Samaringa, Victor Hungwe and Vincent Kandiyero decided to be part of the audience.
After winning in the big boys section, Chiendaramwano then proceeded to the final round where he beat the challenges from Matt Humphries, who had won the Mr Zimbabwe light heavyweight division, Ndumiso Dlodlo (middleweight) and seasoned campaigner Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga from the lightweight division.
In recent competitions, Chimuchenga had been contesting in the middleweight division but the seasoned athlete decided to go for the lightweight title but still he came unstuck against Champion.
In August this year, Chiendaramwano was crowned the Muscle Mania champion and on Saturday he captured the premier title and did not hide his joy after driving all the way from his base in Botswana for the show.
“God is great. I have achieved one of the greatest things in my life by becoming Mr Zimbabwe. I really appreciate all the people who put me to where I am today as I have become a big name in Zimbabwe bodybuilding,” said Chiendaramwano.
The 27-year old muscleman said former Mr Zimbabwe junior, Munashe Matandirotya, has played a big part in his success story. Champion works as an instructor at Jacks Gym in Gaborone but was fine-tuned by Matandirotya for this event.
While Champion emerged the biggest winner on the night, Lulu, the Iron Lady, won the Ms Zimbabwe title while Helen Costa won the figure and fitness section.
Leigham Halfpenny was crowned Ms Fitness Bikini and Reginald Pasara was the Mr Zimbabwe junior as Munyaradzi Mandaza came a distant fourth in the fitness physique.
The Big Brother Housemate was backed by his Zambian girlfriend Cleo who was part of the audience.
