A gospel music choir from the Unity Apostolic Church International is calling talented singers for auditions to be held this month.

The group director Prophet Emmanuel Mwale said there was need for them to recruit people from different denominations.

“We need to grow as a choir and there is need for us to incorporate people from different denominations. That is the big reason why we have managed to have a day for auditions,” said Mwale.

In Zimbabwe big choirs are becoming popular with most of them making waves internationally.

On Saturday the group performed at Nkosi Ka Ndlovu Motherland Tour and they managed to give their best.

They performed songs from their debut album “Tsoka Dzevatsvene” and they mesmerized few people who turned up for the show.

They performed songs such as “Vasikana”, “Kunamata”, “Tsoka”, “Munondichengeta”, “Mirai Neni” and “Tinoenda Kure”.

After their performance many people asked for their CDs.

Mwale who is also a musician said they were targeting to recruit 100 people for the group.

“Though we have some people from several churches we feel we have to add and our number should be at least 100 people,” he said.

He said that was another way of talent search as they have plans to assist individuals within the camp to have their solo projects.

“We have some of our members who wish to have their solo projects and we will assist them,” said Mwale.

He said they were giving each other a chance to write songs and showcase their skills as a way of cultivating talent within the group.

For him practice is the only way to go as they wish to meet international standards.

Asked if they were not merely tracing the footsteps of choirs like ZimPraise and Xtreme Afrique that are making waves internationally, Mwale said their wish was to spread the word of God.

“We want people to hear the word through music and that was the reason why we established that choir,” he said.

In Zimbabwe several choral groups have managed to make their names abroad.

Groups such as Zimpraise headed by Joseph Madziire, Xtreme Afrique headed by Laiton Ngolomi, Chitungwiza Harmony Singers and CCAP Voice of Mbare among others have established followings beyond Zimbabwe.
