adminvying for the same ward amid reports that other candidates might have signed letters they submitted to the Nomination Court last Friday.
The letters are supposed to be signed by secretaries-general of parties sponsoring those candidates.
Mr Musundire yesterday confirmed there were double candidates in Chitungwiza but denied he played a part in it. Mr Musundire confirmed there were double candidates in Chitungwiza.
“There are double candidates but I did not sign the papers. They (candidates) signed by themselves. I do not even speak to the said councillors and in my motions in Parliament I always lashed at them,” he said.
Sources within the MDC-T say Mr Musundire signed nomination papers for both winning and losing candidates in 15 out of the 25 wards that comprise Chitungwiza.
The sources attributed the situation to factionalism within the MDC-T.
They claimed that Mr Musundire was MDC-T secretary-general Mr Tendai Biti’s point man and ally in Chitungwiza province.
“All is not well with the party in Chitungwiza province. Musundire is causing chaos after fielding double candidates for council elections.
He signed nomination papers of losing candidates in 15 out of the 25 wards in Chitungwiza and this means the MDC-T votes would be split in those wards. Actually, the chances of the MDC-T losing to other political parties are high. This is because already there are 10 former MDC-T Chitungwiza councillors including deputy mayor Clara Makwara (ward 24)
who are standing as independent candidates,” the source said.
Among former MDC-T councillors standing as independents are Bhuka Usada (ward 21), Leonard Mukwesha (ward 25), Tinashe Kazura (ward 7) and Boniface Manyonganise (ward 4).
Areas with double candidates are wards 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25.
