Chapeta seeks to unseat Chiwanza

LOSING 2018 Zifa board elections candidate, Stanley Chapeta is seeking to unseat board member, Chamu Chiwanza after filling a complaint with the Zifa Ethics committee claiming the latter’s participation in the elections was unlawful.

Chapeta is complaining the Zifa Electoral Committee erred in allowing Chiwanza to contest in the election as he did not meet the requisite qualification of having been in football structures for a five-year period before the election. The Zifa Central Region boss confirmed he has filed a complaint but declined commenting further on the case.

“Yes, it is true. I have laid a complaint but I am not at liberty to go into the details,” he said. Chiwanza, a close ally of former Zifa president, Philip Chiyangwa, is reported to have stated that he had got the five years football administration experience with Conduit, a women’s football team in Hararwe, but the team is rumoured to have disowned him. He was nominated to contest in the elections by Harare City.

The Ethics Committee chairman, Chris Chidzenga said he was engaged in meetings when Sunday News sought comment. Other board members of the Ethics Committee include Simon Makaza, Alex Muzambi and Nancy Chandakaona.

Efforts to get a comment from Chiwanza were fruitless. It remains unclear what the case would have on the whole election process that ushered in Felton Kamambo as president should Chiwanza to be proved to have illegally taken part in the elections. He is the second Zifa board member to be dragged for an Ethics Committee after suspended vice-president Gift Banda.
