THE abandoned game between Chapungu and Dynamos has taken a new twist with Chapungu being hauled before the Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee for causing the premature ending of the match.

In a statement yesterday, PSL communications and media liaison officer Kudzai Bare said Chapungu are being accused of causing the abandonment of the game by failing to provide replacement goal posts.

“Chapungu FC have been charged for breaching Premier Soccer League rules and regulations and have been summoned to appear the PSL Disciplinary Committee for causing the abandonment of a match due to failure to provide a replacement/reserve goal. In terms of order 31 of the PSL Rules and Regulations it is an act of misconduct on the part of the club where: “31.1.17 its match officials cause the abandonment of a match”” read part of the statement.

The hearing has been scheduled for Thursday. The match prematurely ended in the 56th minute when Dynamos’ Tichaona Chipunza’s speculative drive took an awkward bounce and when Chapungu goalkeeper Talbert Shumba retreated to deal with the ball, he landed on the goal posts and his heavy frame caused them to collapse.

Efforts to fix the goal post were in vain and after a one hour and 35 minutes of stoppage, match commissioner Israel Mugwagwa, in consultation with referee Martin Chivandire, called off the match. Dynamos were leading 4-0 when the match was called off.
