From Jabes Lefani in KADOMA Black Rhinos 0-1 Chapungu
A SOLITARY goal by Brighton Mugoni in the 78th minute ensured Chapungu won the battle of defence forces and kept alive their good start to life back in the Castle Lager Premiership at Rimuka yesterday.
Mugoni, full of running all afternoon, punished his former club when he towered above the entire defence to connect home a ball swung in from a corner by Gift Phiri.
It meant that John Nyikadzino and his men have now picked four points in their first two matches and have won at a venue where the majority of the Premiership clubs failed to gain anything.
“I salute the boys for making my day. They played according to instructions and executed what we were doing at training,” said Nyikadzino, whose team is yet to concede a goal.
“At training we have been rehearsing these corner kicks and we scored from a set-piece. The game was evenly balanced and the better team won as it was a grudge match between the uniformed teams.”
Rhinos coach Arthur Tutani said his team paid a huge price for not taking their chances.
“In soccer the best way to win the game is to score and my boys did not do that and as a result we got punished,” said Tutani. “We hope we will work on those grey matters. The game was evenly balanced but we lost concentration as the game wore on.”
Rhinos thought they had surged ahead in the 75th minute but had an effort by Lot Chiwunga disallowed for offside.
The game was also watched by Airforce of Zimbabwe chief Air Marshal Perrence Shiri who seemed to enjoy every minute of the duel sitting in the VIP stand.
