AGELESS striker Philip Marufu struck deep into time added on as resurgent Chapungu powered to victory over Bulawayo City at Ascot yesterday.

The Gweru airmen are now unbeaten in seven games and are yet to concede a goal during that run. Chapungu gaffer Tendai Chikuni hailed his charges. “Today we did not play our normal game, but I told the guys that after this (international) break anything can happen so my worry was about consistency and I am happy we managed to get maximum points,” said Chikuni.

Bulawayo City gaffer Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu was left cursing the football gods. “It is just unfortunate this is how football is. It is sad that we lost three points today after playing so well, taking control of the match even though I had thrown youngsters into the fray. “We need to work on our concentration or lack of, which saw us conceding in the last minute, but we are not demoralised and it’s still a long way to go in terms of our survival mission,” said Mpofu.

Amakhosi had chances with their best falling to substitute, Rainsome Pavari, whose long-range effort just missed the upright in the 63rd minute.

With the match seemingly heading for a drab draw, a Collen Kwaramba throw-in was flicked by one of the Chapungu players into the box and fell onto the path of Marufu who tapped home from close range.
