THERE was no winner in this Castle Lager Premiership battle of relegation-threatened homeboys as Chapungu and Nichrut settled for a share of the spoils at Ascot yesterday.
The result left both sides with hopes of avoiding demotion at the end of the season. Gerald Bhero struck first for Nichrut before Muchingami Moenda equalised before the breather to decide the derby.
Nichrut remained in the drop zone with 28 points, just two adrift of a safety position behind the trio of Chapungu, Dynamos and Bulawayo Chiefs who are on 30 points.
Bhero gave the match an exhilarating start when he powered home a thunderous drive from outside the box, beating Warriors reserve goalkeeper Talbert Shumba hands down in the sixth minute.
Seven minutes before the breather Stanley Chakwana in goal for Nichrut carelessly conceded a corner from a harmless looking Allen Tavarwisa effort, and from the resultant set piece Moenda rose high to pant a header and draw the hosts level.
Nichrut coach John Nyikadzino felt his charges spurned a glorious chance to evade the dreaded relegation zone but took comfort in that his side still have the chance to decide their fate.
“We played well and that early goal should have settled the match. The goal we conceded was avoidable and if it was not for that mistake we would have won because we managed to restrict our opponents from creating scoring chances.
“We are in the relegation zone and these matches are the ones we should be winning. But we still have many games and if we get good results in those matches we will be fine.
